Welcome to our new website and my blog. I will use this section of the website to provide an update on how our plans are progressing and to answer any questions you may have as things proceed. You will find a form on the "Get Involved" page of the website where you can write questions which I will do my best to answer through the blog.

We are excited about developing the UK's first deep geothermal plant that will provide both electricity and heat. The next few weeks will be focused on connecting with people and businesses in Cornwall to make sure our plans work well within the local community.

The project is part of my personal ambition to re-empower communities in the UK by involving them in their own energy production. This both helps to reduce bills and increases awareness of both energy usage and what it takes to produce it. For too long, people have been presented with ever increasing energy bills with little visibility of the environmental costs of producing that energy, how the charges are constructed and most importantly, how they themselves can supplement and conserve energy most efficiently. By putting control of production back in the hands of the individual, we will see a huge step towards a more responsible energy cycle.

I welcome the geothermal approach for local independance from a costly future. How will you avoid cooling shortcircuits occurring as before, above the casing. how will you jack or create the reservoir without major impact on towns and existing water tables. How long will the reservoir be dormant after you have cooled it & where do you move to meanwhile. Cheers Ian

Hi Ian - unlike some other geothermal projects, which have created ‘artificial’ underground reservoirs, we will be targeting volumes of rock that already exhibit enhanced permeability. We will not be drilling directly into the granite as before and should be able to avoid the creation of short circuits or preferential pathways. The water for charging the reservoir will come from flooded mines not from the local water supply. The plant should be operational for 25 years. After that point we will let the reservoir recover. We will know more about the recovery time once we have drilled. However, it is likely that we would re-drill from the existing site to exploit another part of the resource rather than re-locate.

Where will the new plant be built? At Rosemanowes? Or Carharrack? Cheers Richard richard.freeborn@oceanfabrication.com

Hi Richard - the proposed plant would be built on the United Downs industrial estate, near Carharrack. Thanks for the question. Ryan.
