Case Study: A Passion for Geothermal Energy

Ryan Law

Ryan Law, managing director of Geothermal Engineering Ltd has installed his own shallow geothermal system at his house along with photovoltaic solar panels.

Although the geothermal system was intricate to install, with a total of 2kms of tubing buried 2m underneath the ground, the system provides free heating in the winter and cooling in the summer.

It is a small example of Ryanís vision to 're-empower the community' both literally and metaphorically. His philosophy is to put communities in charge of their own energy production so that energy supply and demand are carefully considered on an individual basis and a responsible cycle of use is adopted. Self generated energy also carries with it the advantage of a dramatic decrease in traditional energy bills.
